situation nr_817 follows a series of compositions, cable drawings and technical constellations (unit-739, unit.1008, nr.7-G, nr.27-1.2.3, composition for two monitors, composition for a question, composition for Europe, composition for monitor, projector, bass and computer, composition nr.25) that son:DA has made as space situations — alias used together with guests artists — in performances during the last three years.
The technical support for this low-fi (analogical) space situation, with the help of which the composition is possible, is made from a simple sound interface — alias coaxial cable — which, stuck to the screen, reacts to the events, course and changes in electronic signals within the picture electronics of the screen/s — alias of the television/s. There is also an analogical connection between audio and video signals — alias the video output becomes an audio input and vice versa. An electronic signal circuit is made.
The previously prepared and presented, projected pictorial (moving image) material makes up the score — alias is a fundamental material for the performances, for the physical interactivity of the performer and of the audience. Manipulation occurs in treating and projecting the sound and video signals into the system, into the technical constellation, and modulation happens during the process of the performance-interactivity-improvisation with the constellation, with the touching (playing) of this low-tech musical instrument.
The pictorial material for the constellations included and was represented by moving images — alias found footage or original video recordings — as well as by animated static images, words and numbers — alias the television's signal of the spatial (geographical) position of the instrument.

son:DA Metka Golec born 1972 in Maribor [SLO], and Miha Horvat born 1976 in Maribor [SLO], they live in Vienna and Maribor. The world of digital technologies, of electronic sounds and images, seems to be the natural surrounding for the artistic alliance son:DA. In their work, though, they are not fascinated with the endless possibilities of new technologies. Rather, they are critical and ironic toward such fascinations. The constant multiplication of new technologies and their effects turns into noise, just as the actual physical space gets crowded with electric wires, cables, and piles of hardware that used to be brand new, cutting edge technologies. The works of son:DA are often deliberately simple and restrained, sometimes using very basic technical possibilities that stress an "underground" feeling. [Igor Zabel]
