Six-language SurroundSound recordings in 5.1 multichannel technology take the listener along into an immersive pan-European football stadium. The sounds invite the football fan on a voyage through Germany, the Netherlands, England, Spain, France and Italy. The groundhopper, the football flaneur who travels from stadium to stadium, goes on a trip, a Grand Tour through the great opera houses of European football Anfield Stadium Liverpool, Nou Camp Barcelona, De Kuyp Rotterdam, Rome, Florence, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, St. Pauli and so on and so forth. The game is the audience. The fans make the music. In between, between the big matches, are the motions of travel as downtime, pauses, after-echoes, scenes of aftermath, of reflection.
All of this without words, without commentary, using only original sounds.
In this acoustic work, football, stadium sounds and fan songs can be experienced as a sociocultural sound phenomenon with a driving beat, as the swinging result of the work of a group of acoustic ethnographers who went on a hunt for the groove of football. Yes, we want to wrap the listeners in our football sounds, our soccer sounds, to have them say: »We can touch the sound around us and feel touched by it at the same time.«
