For Jan-Peter E.R Sonntag
[Paula von Sydow] referentiality is
an artistic strategy as well as a working principle and method. He produces
interweavings of relations and references among insights from art history,
cultural history, the natural sciences, philosophy and literature, and confronts
them with quotidian, seemingly banal events and experiences. This results
in a testing of these scientific and philosophical insights, in a kind of
application and practical use of their maxims, which he then places at our
disposal, or presents as an absolute, in the form of an artistic work. With
this thinking and working structure, Jan-Peter Sonntag consciously relates
to the artistic approaches of the 1960s and '70s, both in the visual arts
and in music. […] With his work modern minimal disco, Sonntag creates
a counterpoint to his installation 612.43WEISS. In contrast to that work's
open structure of associations, this installation is based on an – almost
tautological – circular argument, which has taken on a self-referential
structure in the course of the work's further development.
